Christian marriage is a lifelong covenant of faithfulness between a man and a woman. This union is made possible through Jesus Christ who is the basis and bond of unity between husband and wife. He is the source and power of unity when the faith of the couple is centered on Him. Christian marriage confirms this grace-filled union in Christ.
In creation, God established marriage and family. He made us male and female so that we might live within this holy structure of life, to love, serve, and care for one another. The rite of Holy Matrimony is an act of worship toward God, acknowledging Him and the blessings He gives through marriage. Because of this, as the rite of Holy Matrimony says, "marriage is not to be entered into inadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God."
Taking seriously the words of our Lord concerning marriage, it is appropriate for you, as a couple, to meet with the Pastor for Pre-Marital counseling. Many things will be covered during this session, and while they can't prepare you for everything you encounter as husband and wife, they will show you what God's plan is for marriage.
